8. HIPPARAGI BARRAGE PROJECT

Comprehensive Hippargi Barrage Project including Karimasuthi and Savalgi-Tungal Lift Irrigation schemes administratively approved by Government during June 2001 comprises a gated barrage across Krishna river near Hippargi village in Jamkhandi taluk to provide irrigation to 70,079 Ha with an utilisation of 12.10 TMC of water in Belgaum and Bagalkot districts through two foreshore Lift Irrigation Schemes.
ØDam & Allied works: 
Since the original agency did not complete the work in the scheduled time, the  contract was rescinded by Government. The balance work was entrusted to M/s. Gammon  India  Ltd. during December 2000 and the works are nearing completion and expected to be completed before the scheduled date of Dec 2001.
 
Tenders for crest gates are received and are under evaluation.
ØPre-qualification of agencies for design and execution of Lift Irrigation Schemes on turn key basis completed.  Estimate and DTP for Halyal and Ainapur LIS finalised and tenders are invited.

Comprehensive estimate of Hippargi Barrage Project:

  • The project in its original firm envisages utilisation of 12.56 TMC of water of which 4 TMC of water has to be provided under Godavari Diversion Scheme which is not yet materialised.
  • There are persistent demands from the farmers of Athani and Jamkhandi taluks to provide irrigation facilities through lift irrigation from Hippargi Project.
  • Government is considering approval to the comprehensive proposal of Hippargi Barrage Project, including Karimasidi and Savalgi-Tungal Lift Irrigation Schemes.
  • The revised project cost - Rs. 815.00 crores is under scrutiny.
